Jeremy's Print Lab: FAQ

Thanks for showing interest in my products! If you have any questions, they might be answered here.

General 3D Printing Information

What is 3D printing? How does it work?

3D Printing works by melting down plastic into a specific pattern. The plastic starts as a big, long string rolled into a spool. The spool is fed into the printer, where it is melted. Once the printer is hot enough it moved

Are 3D prints hollow?

Sort of! 3D prints are not solid plastic all the way through! This would make something relatively small take days longer to print and use exponentially more plastic. Instead, prints usually have about 3 solid walls of plastic on the edges, and the middle has a specific "infill" pattern for additional strength.
This image from All3DP shows the different possible infill patterns.

What are 3D prints made out of?

Technically, 3D prints can be made out of just about anything that can be melted down, or have a thick liquid form. Plastic, glass, metal, chocolate, and concrete are all materials that have been 3D printed. Most prints are done in plastic, the most popular type of plastic being Polylactic acid (PLA). PLA is a bioplastic, made from renewable biomass. According to BioPak.com, this can include fermented plant starch like corn, cassava, sugarcane, or sugar beet pulp.

Jeremy's Print Lab Information

Best practices for long-lasting prints.

The absolute best conditions for a 3D print to live its longest life are no sunlight, cool temperatures, and no force applied. If you've purchased a planter, you will probably need to put that in direct sunlight so the plant doesn't die. I've been using one of my Ico Planters since the Summer of 2023 and the pot has not faded, nor has it shown any signs of damage. I rotate the pot every few weeks so the sun attacks it evenly (and, that's good for the plant!) Overall, I wouldn't stress too much about it. I have a few prints on windowsills and I live in Florida so it can get quite hot and they're all completely fine.

Can my 3D print be left outside?

No! I've tested this! Best case scenario it fades, worst case scenario it melts!
See this video to see how it can melt:

Why does my 3D print have white stuff on the bottom?

Gross! Don't panic, I used to use hairspray, but now I use glue sticks, to keep the 3D print stuck to the print bed while it is printing. Both can be washed off easily and if it's hairspray, you get the added bonus of it smelling like citrus. I try to wash this off each print, but if I missed one I apologize.

NEW Pipeline Surf Coaster at SeaWorld Orlando: Review

Review - Pipeline: The Surf Coaster

By Jeremy Weed

I've been watching the construction of Pipeline front the outside for quite a while, however, I've been avoiding reading information about it until I finally got to ride it, so as to not get any spoilers.

Pipeline construction - July 7th, 2022

After a few years of anticipation, I could finally ride it yesterday. Seaworld's official description for the coaster is as follows, "Feel the awesome power of the ocean in a whole new way on Pipeline, the first-of-its-kind surf coaster. Experience the rush of launching 110 feet up at 60 mph and feeling every bank and curve as though you’re really riding the waves, thanks to innovative dynamic seats that gives you unparalleled freedom of movement. Experience the ultimate thrill with the addition of this seventh coaster to the Coaster Capital of Orlando." Their description makes this ride seem really great, so will it live up to the hype?

New Sign at the entrance of the park

The first evidence of the ride is right in the parking lot. SeaWorld made the interesting
choice of building the ride right against the parking lot and honestly, I don't dislike it. For me, it didn't take away from the ride and it makes walking up to the park that much more exciting. Also, look how cool that sign looks! The sign is painted on the side of the repair building for the ride trains. Once you're in the park and you make your way to the area, you're greeted by some really impressive views of the ride. The track is painted a pretty cyan and baby blue (similar to Manta) and the area has accents of orange to contrast. There's also fun surf music playing.

The view looking back toward the Sky Tower

Because this was during pass holder previews, the area was relatively empty. We walked up to the entrance and we were ready to ride.

I always enjoy the signs for SeaWorld's rides

There's not much to say about the queue, Manta will never be beaten with their cave aquarium. This cave was pretty standard for a SeaWorld coaster, comparable to Ice Breaker. There wasn't really much wait, we only had to wait for about 1 or 2 trains. Once the gates open, you walk up to your "seat", if you can call it that.

The station

You push it down (they can move up and down, more on that later), and sort of straddle it. Then you pull the harness over you and it locks in. I'll be honest, it isn't the most comfortable position to be in. Once the train leaves the station, you pause for a second and then shoot off straight forward and hit this small hill. That's when the allure of the ride makes itself clear. You hit the hill and get some incredible airtime. The seats have the ability to move up and down and this forces your feet off the ground. To make it even cooler you can jump just before the hill and get even more air time. After that you go over this crazy loop that kind of pushes you down. The rest of the ride is a series of hills and turns that take full advantage of the harness's ability to move up and down. It's a really unique sensation and honestly, after riding it 5 times it didn't get old. A POV video doesn't convey the crazy feeling. The ride might've benefited from 1 more hill to get you a little more air time, but overall my thoughts on this ride are very very positive. My only complaint about this ride is the shoulder harness is uncomfortable. After 5 rides, I definitely had a bruise on the area where my collar bones are. I've uploaded 2 ride POVs if you want to see it for yourself, they will be below but I also highly recommend riding this ride in person.

Heavy Traffic at Walt Disney World due to Road Closure

 Sunday, March 26, 3:23pm

Walt Disney World is experiencing extremely heavy traffic due to Osceola Parkway being closed from Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, down past at least McDonald's on West Buena Vista Drive. The cause for the closure is currently unknown although it's suspected to be a car accident. Check back for more updates.

State of the game: Turf Takeover!

I've teased that I was working on a game for the past little while and I'm happy to say, it officially has a name! And that name is...

The logo for our new game, Turf Takeover

We even released a trailer announcing that we were working on the game! You can watch the trailer here. The game has been undergoing development for quite some time now but in various different states. The original visions for the game were much more ambitious, but we scaled them back to something more doable and more fun to play. I will continue to post in-depth development updates to this Blog, so be sure to check back often! In the meantime, 2 videos have been posted since the release of the Turf Takeover Announcement Trailer, this one which shows me modeling a building for one of the maps, and this one I made as a joke.

I also figured I would list the people currently working on the game:
Jeremy422gaming (me!) - Modeling
WinstonTheNoob - Modeling
iweed1138 - Scripting
KEVBloxTime - Music

See you in the next update!
