Slide Vlog 365

Recenlty, Slide Vlog 365 was released to the world and got pretty good results! It's actually currently tied with the most liked Slide Vlog so you know... if you want to go give it a like and bump it up a bit😉

A lot of work went into it. I put way more work into it than necessary but I'm really happy with how it turned out. I did run into a ton of issues though. For starters, I had to go through every. single. slide vlog to figure out who had been in them and when. Then I had to find the original files which was easier said than done. The hardest part of all though was exporting the project. I exported it and the file had become corrupt. After crashing the computer TWICE, I finally managed to get it uploaded. I didn't have much to talk about, but I also wanted to acknowledged it happened so that's why this post is so short. If you want to stay updated on Slide Vlogs, you can find them all here.

Until next time,
Slide vlog on guys!

Breaking and entering

The 100k update for my game Rob a bank obby has been released fully! Discounts and all! I've gotten two new founders to my Founder's VIP, AND I released a game that's Rob a Bank Obby Classic (as it was seen in 2017). I'm quite happy about all of the progress I've made towards this game!

In my next post I plan to talk about my struggles with Slide Vlog 365. So be sure to stick around for that! If you want to play either of the games mentioned, check them out here:

Learning a new 3D Program

I've done it too many times. And I'm doing it again! By now I have gone through a ton of different 3D programs for different purposes, mostly because I find it a lot of fun. I've done Blender (my main one), ROBLOX Studio, Brick Hill Studio, Stud.io, Makehuman, Kogama, a tiny bit of Unity and I have plans to learn Cinema 4D and Unreal Engine. Today I am trying the World To Build Studio, and my initial reaction is actually pretty positive. I appreciate some of the more advanced tools it has to offer, and the controls are simple, similar to Blender. My only negative thing right now is that the controls are REALLY jittery, making it difficult to move around. I plan to keep working on it though to see what I can make, so stay tuned for that!

Game design!

Game design is something I find kind of interesting which is why I'm going to talk about it in today's post. I'm working on a new obby in Roblox with iweed1138 and WinstonTheNoob. One thing I pushed while working on this game was lighting and game design.
I don't want to spoil too much, but I do want to talk about what I did to make the game look how it does. I wanted it to use a color pallet that consists of purple and green. Because it takes place in a forest, I decided to make the fog green.
Because it's a fantasy game, I also decided to make the cave torches green. Now where will the purple come into play? Well in obbys there are obviously lots of things that can kill you so I decided that anything bad, should be purple. That's where the game design aspect comes into play. The player quickly learns to avoid purple, which I think is cool and has a large, positive, impact on the play-ability of the game.
Purple fog below the trees, kills you
Purple smoke from the purple mushrooms also kills you
Purple rocks... EXPLODE WHEN YOU TOUCH THEM

I started doing this with other colors as well.

Yellow Mushrooms are for you to jump on

Blue mushrooms speed you up

There's still lots to do and there are definitely still LOTS of bugs, but it's been really fun to work on, especially with iweed1138 and WinstonTheNoob. I plan to keep you guys updated on the progress and eventually the release. I'll end this with a few screenshots of some bugs and the map.
We didn't anchor an invisible wall :(

We didn't anchor a model :(

The map without any green fog (looks really bad)

90s Style Animation

I wanted to created animation in the same style you would see at the bowling alley. Why? Because I was bored. I've always found them weird and thought it would be funny. There were a few things I needed to work out though. Render engines have come so far, so I would need to turn off a bunch of settings to make this work.
First off I used Eevee instead of cycles because there are no light bounces. Then I made sure AO, Bloom, Screen Space Reflections and Motion Blur were all turned off. The shadow size needed to be slightly lower quality as well.

Next, it was all just figuring out little tricks to make it looks as dated as possible. One thing I did was light the scene using spot lights, with only one of the spot lights actually creating shadows.
The "main" light is the only light to actually create shadows. Another thing I did was set the background to completely black. The last thing I needed to create my look was a texture. I downloaded this texture from texture haven, but it was too high quality for what I needed. So I color corrected it and scaled it down a bunch to create this:
It doesn't have as much detail, it's smaller and the colors are really saturated. I think it looks a lot better for what I'm going for. My animation was finally complete and ready to be rendered. I rendered it at a 4:3 ratio with a resolution of 640x480. Here was my final result:
I think it looks pretty good (for what I was working towards of course). And now I now a fun, easy way to make 90's style animation.

I have this scene file (.blend) posted on my Patreon if you would like to take a look and learn more about it! Thanks to everyone who made it this far!

Alive

I swear, I am. I forgot about this blog, but I plan to update it because I've done a lot recently. I'll go in depth on different projects I'm working on. One of those things is I'm helping my brother Ian out with a game, you can see the development log here. I'll also probably talk about my work on Slide vlogs, I have some exciting things coming soon. If you don't know what Slide Vlogs are, you can find those here. Anyway, I'm sure I won't run out of things to talk about and hopefully I can remember to update this because I'm pretty terrible at that. Thanks for reading!
